Not sure, tbh.

 

it's a possible, but I think this is more like a hard bracket.

 

May even be perreni

 

 

Need to get a closer look, it's up at about 4 meters.

In my limited experience (3 encounters) the nodulosus is at times a VERY tough bracket, i think this is largely down to the exudates, which on drying become hard like granite, in times of high water content the brackets ooze a sticky almost treacle like sweet smelling liquid.

 

and confined to beech, and old ones at that, considered rare, think it may even be red data

just realised that this is one of the trees that Tobias & I looked at on his whistle stop last year.

 

Don't think we even looked at the wound above, as we were too busy looking at the dryinus below :001_rolleyes:
