climbing a leaning tree

Dear Sirs,

apologies if this has been repeated before. I am new to climbing and this forum. If one is attempting to climb a tree with a slight lean, assuming the tree is safe, please could someone explain simply, preferably with a diagram of which side to approach the tree from? Should one climb up the lean or be "underneath" it. Sorry it is hard to explain. I am struggling to get started on some of the practice trees we use at college. I find I tend to swing around the tree or it is difficult to make any contact with my feet when trying to body thrust. If anyone can advise me in simple terms, it would really be appreciated.

Thanks again

S.Johnson

If your climbing the tree then you need to be on it, so above the lean. If you want to footlock or body thrust in free space then you can do that from below the lean but at some point you will have to climb back over to the "above" side.

If your falling (swinging) off the top side and keep finding yourself on the underside then you need to work on your balance as that shoul not be happening if you dont want it to.
