Hi all

I'm looking to hire a mobile sawmill + operator for a large diametre (over a metre) beech trunk 12' long. I'm based in Rotherham, south yorkshire... anybody know anyone that may be able to help, wanting full width slices to preserve the natural edge of the stem

fingers crossed

There aren't really any mobile sawmill operators with a mill of that size. There is a Serra sawmill just north of us, but he doesn't really travel.

You are going to be limited to chainsaw milling if you want full width boards.

Hi, I doubt he'll travel too far tbh because he based up near inverness but it may be worth a try. His name is kevin murray, 07788113268. If you tell him Mark watler put you onto him. He works full time on a farm up there but might be interested in a weekend away if the money was right.

I do know of someone with a portable mill that would do a 950mm, but he's a grumpy git and doesn't like talking to people so it wouldn't get you very far I'm afraid. It's a Forestor, so it might be worth contacting their agents and seeing if they know of anyone with one available.

In similar vein, there's now a wide mill Trekkasaw, which is portable. Might be worth contacting Log Logic?
