I dont understand why people go to all these lengths to try and make an antiquated hitch perform like a modern advancing hitch, when the obvious thing to do would just be to switch to a modern hitch

 

That's not quite the ends of the earth Steve....!

I used to use this system (albeit using just a normal prusik loop on the standing rope to attach my pulley, rather than bootlaces) and it worked a treat.

It actually felt like a backward step at the time when I went to th hc....!
