Alvin, my apologies. Colours are , black very dense sound wood; brown sound wood; green transition wood; purple decay, blue very decayed timber, White air.
yes picus gives good gradations in color. i am using arbotom right now, its green-red range more than rainbow; waiting to see picus 3 when it gets to NA.

did you get a ground level shot? i like the 3d but after adjusting ranges etc a while it's hard to say what is indeed what...remember the anne frank tree?

this is rather horrifying as i saw immense iconic eucs in oz eaten away lower stem at an alarming rate...

Base of ecalyptus in my garden looks abit like that but I though it was just because a harsh winter had killed off half the tree.

Its multistemmed near ground & the dead trunks have being cut down leaving the live stems.

Hi Treemover, sorry, I only just tuned in too your update post. Would be really interesting to see a photograph of the actual cross section, to compare with my records. With CS and that level of internal advancement I would expect to see a greater level of external dysfunction. Any news on the tree's future status.

Regards Cassian...

not that it matters much but how high up is the 2nd reading taken?

and does picus show velocity ranges? arbotom shows them in a bar on the right. they tell me these are better to compare with than just color.
