And i will chuck Makita into the mix. Nice well made saws. Cheaper to buy and reliable.

+1

Love my Makita and Dolmar :thumbup1:

Could buy one of them new for the price your looking at a 2nd hand Stihl or Husky which is someone elses cast-off.

I've had the MS260 and 346XP and I'm now on a 550XP. All excellent saws.

For your needs I'd go for a new Makita - this shop was linked in another thread and I'd say get the full pro Makita for less than £310:

Makita DCS5031-45 Chainsaw Petrol 2 Stroke Easy Start

Better off with the new saw IMO.

Yes, yes and yes! DCS5030/1 all the way. Prefer the Dolly equivilent but the Mak is by far the best value. Great fast and torquey saw.

Sounds like your in a similar position to what I was a year or so ago.

I had a little husky 142e as an entry saw which was perfect for learning on, nice and light, small and easy to service and play with.

Decided I needed/wanted something with a bit more punch so, after a bit of advice from seasoned users, I decided to go for a 346xp.

I was very fortunate to find a nearly new saw on ebay which I picked up for £205, not only the saw but the guy included 5ltr chain oil & petrol, files and an axe, what a bargain !!!. The difference in quality and productivity that the 346 supplies is well worth the trade up and I would definitely recommend it.
