Converting transits to 4wd?

we have a mk6 tranny tipper and were fed up of getting stuck everywhere.

our soloution was to put 4x kingpin trekker diamonds on the rear and run it with 10mm spacers to stop em scrubbing when loaded.

100% better on wet grass verges , snow and fields in summer-

but also has downsides.

As stated above you normally get too brave and get stuck further from civilisation!!

Also the problem with all transits is the weight distribution.....

the front wheels are carrying the majority of the weight of the engine, which sink on soft ground, making knobbily rear tyres useless and you tend to dig uber big potholes :(

making the situation much worse.

will put pics up of our van with the offroad tyres on,does vastly improve traction for a transit but by no means makes it a field plodder.

Everything is a compromise. Im a fencer.

Had a single cab hilux 4 x 4 = not enough interior space, not enough outside space really, but got a trailer.

Inside space became an issue = got a ranger supercab 4 x 4, great interior compromise, external not really enough, but just manageable so continue to use the trailer, except when you are in tight locations.

Now, were doing a lot more residential fencing and clearing the old fencing is an issue, but still do lots of off road work in fields (where the trailer is an issue)

So the compromise, keep the supercab and get a daily or transit as well, for the summer and residential stuff
