Hey always been fasinated by different gear us climbers use can people put pics of there climbing set up on here if any thing can show whats about maybe put its advantages etc.

 

This is one of my 2 harnesses

 

 

Its comfortable but not for prolonged use plus the sliding d is rope which im not to keen on. But the click in click out buckles were for me and the high back.

 

I use a icicle hitch as i tried many others eg prussik blakes and they can slide but the icicle grips better and releases better i trust this hitch.

 

I use DR technique. First ladder then ALT till i reach my tie in point then work off my main line for adjusting height and i use a petzl grillon for work positioning.

 

I am expaning my style but testing different ways eg for big wide spread trees a big shot is a must. Pines etc spiking is good but only for take downs.

 

Not a great fan of a cambium saver as i dont like the decent speed can be jerky. Too much wear on the friction hitch.

 

I have never used SRT any one has let me know its benefits cheers.

 

Not saying my way is perfect its not but i found it to work for me.

telhol.....i may be wrong here, but the fact that you say one of the things you like about the tree motion harness is the high back suggests that you are wearing the harness completely wrong.

it sits very low compared to a normal harness. the waist buckle should probably be at, if not below your trouser belt line. the leg loops should be snugged up and adjusted tight at the back to keep the harness from riding up your back. i think if you had it set right you'd find climbing in it a whole lot more comfortable. I wear it all day everyday and its the most comfy harness ive owned yet.

Thanks for the reply i wear it the right way but i do get lower back ache after useing it for a few hours. What i meant by high back is its bigger than other harnesses at the back which spreads the load more.

 

My webbing between the lower rings on the legs is wearing wear is goes through the ring do you have that.

One upgrade would be thicker padding for it.

theres some wear on there, nothing im worried about though, it looks worse that it is i think.

 

i use a tree motion obviously......3meter edelrid lanyard with an art positioner adjuster, if im doing a lot of pole spiking i swap to a 3meter wirecore with a 3-1 v.t

for my main line i use a 3-2 v.t with a micro pulley, or sometimes the hitch climber, depends what i feel like on the day.

twin pulley with a sling on a krab for re-directs, and thats about it

im using a butterfly 2 harness which i find a bit uncomfortable. 13mm climbing line with a split tail and blakes. i always climb with my wire flipline and i use a distel or a happy hitch with 8mm cord. i use a cambium saver with a pulley attached for bigger trees. bashlin spikes.

I'm pretty much the same as Steve, except I use a camp rope grabe on my soft lanyard. And I always use my Hitchclimber pulley, I climb with a 3/2 VT.

 

My Harness is a Treemagic and I like it, the only thing that I don't like is the strap bridge, i'd much prefer a rope bridge like the treemotion.

 

I don't have a ART rope guide, but I always always use my cambium saver on everything, it protects the tree and makes my climbing rope last longer, and generally makes climbing much easier.

o.k my firction cord may wear slightly quicker maybe, but i'd rather my climbing rope lasted longer, plus I like the quick decents its great for swinging out and dropping down onto branches, and when that goes smoothly I look way cool

but most of the time I just look clumsy.

Buckingham Versatile with solid seat harness 7 front attachments - 2 for main line, 2 for secondary strop., Yale XTC ropes, yale xtc split tails with blakes, 4m yale xtc side strop with spliced Eye & mini cam adjuster. Mixture of ISC and DMM crabs.

 

Never climb with more gear than you need, thats my motto.

Also, learn to climb with the bare minimum before relying on gadgits.

I have lots of gadgits, there in the bottom of my climbing bag amongst the woodchips.

 

Very occasionally i'll find a use for them, but half the time, I feel i'm only using them to justify me buying them.

Any one tried the ocean polyester cord yet?.

 

what type of friction hitches do people use.

 

This will sound dumb but i never use a micro pulley what are the benefits can you accent with them decent etc. no one around my way use them. i own some but never seen the need.
