Been looking at the clamp on file guides after ruling out the electric/12v ones due to cost.

Looked on rob d's site tonight and cant decide so thought i would ask for some advice.

Who has used the manual ones, what did you think, good and bad points please.

Quite like either oregon or gransborg one.

look forward to many peoples thoughts, reason for purchase is i have a lot of firewood to do and some is dirty so getting best sharpen every time would be nice.

I have an Oregon manual one and I find it quick and easy to use if you have the saw on a bench. If you have several different types of chain, it will need setting up for each one, which is a pain.

Off the bench, I use the Husqvarna clip on type. Quick and easy but not quite as consistent.

You could try these:

I use these:

It files the teeth and rakers at the same time so it cuts down the strokes by up to 50%.

Plus you get perfect depth every time. The round files don't rotate in the holder so I find that these last a lot longer too.

I got two from D.Jones in Bala - they're pretty hard to find...
