As far as I'm aware the 048 is obsolete. Parts are a nightmare. D a tree surgeons uses one send him a pm if you like.

I can't really fault his one. It's a good saw. Heavy but good. I've fixed his before, and he had the exhaust fixed before I knew him. His is starting to get tired and not as powerfull anymore.

The anti vibe parts are wearing out and it does vibrate a bit.

You need someone to confirm this, but I think the 048 uses the same 52mm pot and piston as the 038 Magnum (and the 045). Aftermarket 52mm 038 pot and piston kits appear to be available (on the inevitable ebay) for about £50 inc. p&p. If the pot is OK you can get a 52mm piston for about £18 inc. p&p. If it's running and the scoring is light, check the plating in the bore as if it's not damaged keeping the original pot is quite viable.

Possibly. Depends which bits. The standard 038 is a 50mm bore, the Magnum is 52mm (matching the standard 048). I'm not sure whether this is true for all years though, or whether there are any other incompatibilities such as placing of holes etc. Probably not, but the ideal is to download yourself a few parts lists (038, 038 Magnum, 048) and see whether the part numbers match.

For general info the 038 Av is 48 mm,super 50 and mag is 52 .Same rings as the 048 but I'm not certain if the piston is the same .

Parts are rare especially clutch side seals and air filters .Piston ,cylinders probabley only used .

I've got two of them both stock and when I use them they do fine but quite frankly a good running 038 mag will out run them .There's only about 4 cc's diff the mag being 72 and the 048 I think 76.7 or there abouts

Hmm well there seems to be a fly in the ointment here .The 048 uses a 13 mm piston pin and the 038 is a 12 .It appears by the IPl the rod end on the 048 is 17 mm and the 038 is 16 mm ID .Fact the pin bearing on the 048 is 13-17-14.5 .Which is not to say if you couldn't find a bearing 12-17 14.5 or close in width that it wouldn't work. You'd likely have to carve the piston bosses down because the 038 mag lists a 13mm pin width. I can't honestly say so one way or the other if it would work or not .

When I get some time I'll look up the specs on an 041 which wouldn't be any more simple to find than parts for than 048 but you never know .
