Found a place up by me mid wales where i can do cs32,34 and 35 in a week and hopefully want to do cs39 aswell hopefully then might find it easier to find a full time job then.

Has anyone got any tips for any of these courses for me please

Cheers Dy14n

CS 32 - make sure your saw is cutting in a straight line or you'll be in trouble. Take your time on all your cuts. Put two rings on your hi lift wedges and they'll last a little longer.

CS 34 - Pay attention all the time as if it's fresh it will go ping. Don't assume just because its old and it doesn't look tensioned doesn't mean it isn't. I got caught out once and the back of my calf was black and purple.

CS 35 - Pay lots of attention and keep your escape routes really clear. It can be rather a scary sight seeing a 3-4 trees all blown on one plate. Just remember to sit back think, think again. Then cut and be prepared to change your plan deopending on how the wood reacts.

i would do it early in the year as the new suit of new "licence to pactice" courses is not out these replace the original CS units and alot of the criteria and standards have changed .

Edit - i had forgotten to say that cs34 (individual wind blown trees) will no longer be available after April (i think that's the target date)

Edited by combined tree services
cs34 will no longer be available

thanks guys really helpful, how come there changing from cs? and taking out cs34?

It's so it all fit in the new qualifications framework. I haven't really looked in to it but i guess 34/35 are becoming one windblown unit. As if you get one windblown it's probably broken another on the way down.

from what was mentioned at the assessors meeting last week this is pretty much the case . for what its worth the new multiple windblow is almost impossible to set up , i worked out that you will need half a woodland to blow over to facilitate such a course

the new framework will be pretty much the same for nptc city&guilds or lantra awards .

Just think how much you could charge for a multi windblow course though if you had to go and winch over half a wood.

haha this is true :sneaky2: , i dont think it will be too long before it is realized that there is a need for dealing with individual windblown trees . i cant see that down in these parts we will be running any multiple windblow courses

so would it be worth holding off doing cs32,34, and course until april then to see what happens ?
