Stihl RTS Super Harness for long reach hedge trimmers | F R Jones and Son

well after years of working without a harness to use long pole tools, given recent health issues I have caved in and bought one. Yesterday I was working on a large long yew hedge and it was invaluable. Perfect control of the long reach trimmer, perfect balance meaning no tiredness as the day wears on...an on...and on.

Though I can see the obvious advantages of Teds Easy Lift Harness, I couldn't justify in my little brain the considerable expense, the Stihl fills the gap for me nicely at around the £70 mark. It was really good yesterday to have done a big days hedging and not have the usual aches and pains from it. :thumbup1:

Oh and not forgetting the superb service once again from Justin and his gang at FR Jones

I suspect in time since you decided to try and buy the rest you may consider the best in the future. I love my competition since it makes my product greater than it already is. The cost of any piece of kit is relative to your actual

ROI. I understand why folks buy something for less money, usually it only takes One outing with my product for the expression, " you get what you pay for" to come to mind. All the best.

Ted, this in no way reflects on your product, and is not my intention. For me, to even consider using an aid such as this Stihl one, or even yours, is a major step. As I said, it is only due to health reasons I even considered it. The outstanding quality of both harnesses is worth the money alone. But to me this is a temporary fix I expect, and if I find that I use it repeatedly over the next say 2 years, I may well consider the ELH, but for now, as a temporary fix, £70 is good :thumbup1:

Mick, I'm sure you won't regret buying this product, I can feel it's benefits straight away. I like it, as I said, not something I would have ever seen myself buying a while back.

There was a heated thread on this subject a while ago.

I don't own any of these harnesses but I will next year and therefore I've made loads of research and consideration.

One of the major comments about the Stihl is that the hoop comes over the shoulder applying the weight to one side and making ambidextrous use somewhat limited.

The GTM harness is in the middle of the price range and appears to be far superior to the Stihl, unsurprisingly.

The ELH is the Daddy.

That appeared to be the conclusion made by owners and users.

I know where I'll be spending my money. Why would I spend less money on something that doesn't do the job properly.

My employers have just bought me an easy lift after me having lots of shoulder pain after doing lots of hedge cutting, havent used it yet just put it together in my front room, it does seem very well made. Will let you know how it goes.

You lucky lucky boy👍.

Look after it 'cos they won't be so generous again if you don't appreciate it.

Tbh, I didnt find an issue with the hoop not holding the trimmer dead centre, if I needed extra reach I simply adjusted the adjustable strop, that's probably why it's adjustable. What I do know is that it spread the weight evenly, it balanced the trimmer well and I was far more comfortable and relaxed using it than I would have been without it. For £70 it did the job I expected, it took the strain from my shoulders, back and most importantly my abdomen. It's not an ELH, it's a Stihl, it's well built, well thought out, and it does what it says on the tin, that's all I expect from a product. :001_smile:
