Motorbike tyre

For any bike nuts out there... My rear tyre tread depth is now flush with the tread wear indicator, (the middle section only) how many more miles would you think is ok before dangerous? Its a sports touring tyre.

 

Got a 300 mile round trip this weekend, bikes a cbr600.

i would get it changed mate, especially if ur doing motorway miles, nothing like it to square a tyre off, also road conditions aint exactly nice at moment, i'd want a bit of tread to shiftt the water out from under the rubber

My guess is none. You will be below the legal limit I would say.

id have it changed if poss, bearing in mind the new tyre youd have to take it steadyish and run in for 50miles

I think by asking the question you probably all ready know the answer.

 

In reality though it isn't going to be anymore dangerous than it has been for the past 300 miles. However with the wetness of the roads at the moment the tyre will be struggling to get upto temperature to maintain full grip.

 

The tyre tread will displace the water whereas the rubber will actually give the grip (look at slicks)

 

Your life, your decision at the end of the day. I've done stupider things and probably will do in the future. If it were me and I could afford it I'd do it.

Just watch out for standing water, aquaplaning with 4 wheels isn't much fun, on 2 it's touch and go.

 

If you've had the bike a while you'll know better than anyone about how it handles. Stay safe and watch out for mr sorry I didn't see you.....

Motorway riding. Just right for a puncture then. If your on the marks the tyre is thin. No point risking it on a bike. £120 quid now. How much time off work / lost money if you come off. Bike safe.

It's not the ride that kills you. It's the stopping when you eventually hit something. Get it changed.would you use your c/saw if you had an idea something was wrong and it might just bite you?
