Can you ascend just on the petzl rig with say a foot pantin or footlocking ? good video relentless climber real interesting set up

not to my knowledge due to the way the rope exits the device, its normally used in a rads system

Arran, with the way that the rope runs through the RIG you would need the foot loop above the RIG or just use RADS. Foot loop for long ascents and RADS for short. If you are just climbing limb to limb with your arms and legs though the RIG is great on its own. I use a 11mm line and it is as smooth as butter! That also makes limb walks great too.
