Small parcel of woodland

I have a small parcel of woodland to clear for a landowner, it is mixed spruce and some large larch on a steep slope and is about a couple of acres,they have had the felling licence through and have to replant with broadleaf trees.

Just wondering how should we leave the site once we have all the timber from there? And what you should do with the brash?

Never dealt with a stand of softwood always been individual broadleafs.

Any suggestions would be grateful.

if your taking the wood are you able to burn the brash on site?

Simple answer regarding brash - do as little as possible! Your time's better spent on other things.

 

If you're clearfelling there's half a chance you can fell it in such a way the brash is already mostly in rows so any extra tidying needed prior to planting would be minimal.

ask the landowner let the local fire service know what and where you are/doing. or chip and spread bud

Leave it for a year and plant in the gaps?

 

If that's not possible, sned it into rows as already suggested or get a a 1.5t 360 in for the day and row it up.

Just make sure whatever you leave is cut to reasonable lengths, try and fell in rows if possible bench/herringbone etc. leave the brash as it is. Brash is conventionally delt with as part of the ground prep prior to planting.
