Just got back from doctors been suffering with carpel tunnel for years on and off finally thought the time has come to get it operated on and sorted because its worse than it was before and I want to be 100% for work the pain also comes from my elbow never really thought anything of it as physio said it was definatly carpel tunnel so I treated it as was told only to go to the docs just now and for him to tell me this morning it sounds like I have cubital tunnel syndrome :001_huh: just been given an admittance form for the hospital and im straight in for an x-ray and they want to send me for nerve stimulation tests and specialist im now worried as thought recovery time from an op for carpel would be 5 weeks but doc reckons it could be excess bone growth on my elbow that they may need to shave off or a whole load of other things that could be causing it and my wrist may not need anything done at all. What sort of recovery time would I be looking at for an op like that?has anyone else had it and how long before you was able to get back to work?

Sasha,

This is a subject very close to my heart.

I developed Cubital Tunnel syndrome shortly after carpel tunnel was diagnosed. Had the steroid injections in the wrists blah blah blah. Mine was brought on from many years on the keyboard and mouse. I had both at the same time and it is proper miserable. Couldn't even drive for very long distances

I was referred to a specialist orthopaedic surgeon for the cubital tunnel and one of the options was to open up my elbows and move the nerve to a new position!

Obviously, I didn't fancy that idea and decided to Google the hell out of it! I found an orthopaedic surgeon in the USA IMAK Products: Orthopedic, Ergonomic Products; Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Pregnancy, Natural Pain Relief, and More who developed products for pain relief from these symptoms. I had to import them as no-one in the UK sold them at the time.

Anyway, after wearing the elbow straps for around 3 months every night, the symptoms subsided. I had such success that the UK specialist i was referred was so impressed he retained the packaging I took to show him! IYI am completely free of any symptoms now.

They are now available in the UK. HERE IS THE LINK >> IMAK Elbow PM

Good Luck

Had the carpel tunnel op.14th March 2011, was delivering logs and working with a saw again by 11th April, but not 100% for a couple of months, now the hand is as strong as before, dont think the work did any harm once stitches out. Never any problems now at all.

I'd just had the carpel tunnel op, in the Avatar photo on left, (Forest Head' at Kielder), I had a large bandage on the right hand, walking was the only thing I could do!

Im glad im not alone mine comes and goes but it was real bad last week I worked saturday morning doing a garden clearance and then spent the afternoon brushcutting scrub I find the strimmer sets it off real bad even though I use the harness, the chainsaw does not seem to aggravate it and hedge cutting is medium but it seems to come and go as it pleases anyway regardless of any triggers I read online to wrap my elbow in a towel at night as silly as it sounds I knew my arm would be bad saturday night so I wore my wrist strap and wrapped my elbow in a towel rolled it right around my arm slept a bit funny but it seems to of helped!

I am going to ring the docs tomorrow and see if the x ray results are back the doc said its more complicated to deal with which has worried me I wonder if the specialist will give me somthing like the arm brace you bought I dont fancy 3 months off I cant sit still for five minutes I would go crazy not being able to do the things I enjoy and only started my business this year so cant afford too much time off I really hope its nothing too bad that warrents an op the doctor did say they would probably try the steroid injection route first before he frightened me with the ''they may need to shave your bone''bit lol I guess if it needs doing and they can definatly say its the cause then I will have to get it done the doc did say its lucky I didnt accept the carpel op all those years ago because it would of been a waste as he thinks the cubital tunnel is the cause of my problems not the carpel.

Thanks for letting me know there may be a non op solution give me hope will have to wait to see the specialist and think I am going to find a support like that for the meanwhile and see if it helps.

Khriss how is the recovery on yours after the op you had do you get any problems with it now ?I guess my biggest fear is I will lose my grip strength ,I read online that cubital can lead to muscle wastage not that I think I have that as im pretty fit and when my hand is ok its great its just night time and the morning its weak until my arm wakes up and the tingling stops and pain goes,I just dont want it to affect my grip ,glad to hear your grip is still good steph thats reassuring :thumbup1:thanks all
