hey ive just joined up here, im new in the industry, im on an arb apprenticeship scheme, basically my apprenticeship gives me 3 nptc qualifications (30 31 pa1/pa6) and an nvq level 2 portfolio qualification with different units like mewp use of chainsaw from rope and harness, climbing and aerial rescue, i just wondered what is the actual value of the nvq2 level 2 qualification to my employer and myself? because i dont know and my tutor hasnt explained it very well, thanks in advance for any advice.

Regards, Angus.

I have a lad on the NVQ Level 2 course, his college is putting him through quite a lot. (cross-cutting, felling, climbing, aerial rescue, chainsaw from rope and harness, first aid etc etc....)

I value the NVQ Qualification as an employer, its a dam good step-up on your arb career and if you had to pay for all those units it'll cost you a fortune!

Count your blessings, keep your head down, ask as many questions as possible and always turn up for work on time.....and Good-Luck! :001_smile:

so do you think i would be employable as a groundie once i had completed the apprenticeship? it was just the aerial rescue thing i wasnt sure of because i have been told you have to have 38 to work legally as a groundie.

Who told you that ??

If you get all those tickets you mentioned it would make you very employable (together with a good reference from your college/current employer)

If my lad gets his act together, i.e. turns up to work on time, cuts out the back-chat and accepts that he does not know much (yet). He may well walk into a £18k job in 12 months.

well i might of got it twisted a bit, do you have to be qualified? or just capable? im about 3 months in now all is going well, not had any accidents yet, but few people on the course have, had a few trees sit back on me, im on the worst pay i could ever be on, but atleast im learning new things, ill freely admit me im green as green can be, but im picking it up as fast as i can, and ive learnt from my mistakes already, im never late for work either. ;)

the college im at is capel manor in enfield, i was thinking about merrist wood but its just too far and the travel would cost me a fortune, but enfield isnt close either, i had to work my arse off to get the work opportunity myself, i must have rung about 30 firms and 90% were a straight no, i ended up with 2 yes's and chose the company who had a better reputation with the other firms that said no.

Regards, Angus. and merry xmas to you aswell.
