I should have sharpened the tip before use as worn but was rushing to do several vehicle loads before teatime. :001_rolleyes:

I was loading sawn slices into a wheelbarrow on Sunday afternoon and the Hookeroon/Sappie slid of the side instead of going into the wood and onto the lower left shin bone above the ankle.

Good news is I was wearing rubber chainsaw boots and class "C" chainsaw trousers so no breaks but a large lump and bruise which is still sore this lunchtime.

Hate to think if had been in normal work boots and trousers.

Take care out there.

Hi TL, which sappie are you using? I have a Oschenkopf from Clarks and its far better than the Oregon one. The weight of the Clarks model makes it so much easier and the flat head is handy to tap in a wedge.

Yes i use a clarks one, very handy but got to watch it,ime wary of it and avoid bringing it straight back towards my legs, prefer to use in a way that if i miss the log then the sappie is going away from me.

I did exactly the same last week and hit my Knee cap. It came up like a balloon!!

Somebody who worked for me was using one in the rain several years ago and the Hookeroon struck a glancing blow to his shin and he had a nasty hole in his shin and was off work for 5 days, following a hospital appointment.

These tools are excellent if used correctly! But concentration is a must otherwise accidents happen.
