Citroen Berlingo 1.6 hdi?

Thinking of getting one to cut miles off the landy and save on fuel!

 

Wondering if anyone has got one and what you think of it? What mpg are you getting?

 

Drove one on a test drive and it felt quite good, for a citroen!

I think you ought to be aware of a slight security problem with the rear door. I have a 2003 1.9d version. If I lower the rear hatch so that appears to be shut, but is only resting on the sill, the central locking quite happily "locks" all of the other doors without any giving any warniing. All of the other 4 doors are locked properly but I can open the tailgate and rummage around to my hearts content. I now have an obsessive compulsion to check my rear tailgate whenever i "lock" my vehicle.

 

Otherwise I have found it an eminently practical vehicle for transporting quite bulky bits of equipment, bags of small trees, bags of compost, etc.

Never heard that on the doors, although have heard similar stories on other french makes. The one I'm looking at is a 2009, so the new shape one. Also has separate deadlocks fitted to all doors.

Ever considered the connect pad?they are really good buses.Know of few tidy ones going cheaply.Some models do have slidy side doors aswell which I remember you said somthing about

Need the three sears in the front. I know you can get the rear seats for the connects but they don't fold out of the way too well so still loose the space in the back. Connects are good vans and pretty bomb proof - I know of one that was rear ended at something like 70mph and it's still driving around, although it does look a little illegal! Have also heard you will struggle to get the mpg out of the connects.

Older engines seem to be better than the new ones....

 

As said the 2.0 hdi is a good lump, I have an older berlingo with the 1.9d engine in, and some prefer them!

aye, older xud will always outlast the hdi unit; principally because the latter is ally block with wet liners (or early hdi was anyway).

 

When ever I look into it the extra costs of running another van are more than the saving in fuel.

 

Looked into this in some detail last year and concluded that in order to save money when quoting and errand running, the vehicle would need to be the Peugeot Bipper / Citroen Nemo / Fiat Fiorino with 1.4 or 1.3 Hdi / JTD unit. Lower tax, higher mpg, cast iron block = very attractive proposition.
