Length of a piece of string question, when I packed up as Sudbrook closed I was forwarding 2.5m hardwood pulp onto trailers at 58 tonne/day over 1km for £4/tonne and using about 30 litres of diesel. It was OK if nothing went wrong.

I can get woodchip to you for cheaper than you could fell and chip it if you take it in the summer and in 25 tonne loads.

Catweazel, I may be interested in the chip, but it needs to be the right spec. I will pm my numbers.

I'd think the poplar would start to go rotten if you left it stacked for more than a year. Make sure you stack it off the ground too. If everything is cut to say 2.4m and stacked nicely the forwarding should go quite quick with a good operator. If its all different lenghts crooked and poorly stacked then it will take longer as you get less on the trailer.

As for cost if anywhere between £4-8 per m3. Off road our valtra is good on the fuel but take it for a little trip on the road at 32kph (it will go faster but you don't want it to). it drinks the fuel like it's free.
