Our client is a west midlands local authority tree section. They undertake the tree maintenance using directly employed arborists. The work involves pruning, dismantling and planting on all council owned land.

 

They are currently looking to employ one or two temporary climbers. Candidates must have NPTCs up to and including CS39 and ideally a drivers licence.

 

Rate of pay initially £8.88PH plus 28 days annual leave. After 12 weeks, rate of pay and annual leave will increase and candidates will be ideally placed to apply for the permanent positions, which include substantial further benefits.

It ain't great but it's starting pay.

 

They aren't going to attract any one with any great skills with that pay scale but going through an agency allows the authority to evaluate potential permanent staff. Once the authority makes someone permanent it"s difficult to get rid.

Here we go again......£8.88 an hour Works out to be £18,500 a year on 40 hour week. Plus 28 days paid holiday! I would have been very happy with that at 21. Cost to employer prob £30,000 due to covering staff holidays PPE, saws fuel, employers national

Insurance,.

 

full-time employment rates can not be compared to sub-contracting rates.
