First splice!

Spliced this little eye today following the instructions on the Samson website...

Marlow 8mm double braid, class 1.

It was easier than I thought, but I understand that this is one of the easier ropes to splice!

Couple of faults/ snags on this one so I won't be climbing on it, might see if I can test it to death at work. :thumbup1:

The bury is not as deep as it could be and the eye is a little baggy, but I dont have anything to anchor from in the house so had to bury it by hand, so to speak. Also haven't whipped it yet.

Can anyone reccomend an online supplier of spicing gear, fids etc (I used a coathanger...)? Also any details on which fid length/ measurements to use for different sized ropes? Any other tips/ comments welcome :thumbup1:

Thanks for the comments :thumbup1:

Second and third attempts- eye to eye, Marlow 8mm double braid, class 1.

Still to do the whipping, and the eyes aren't quite the same size, :sneaky2: but went better than the first attempt.

Running out of Marlow... any suggestions on an easy to splice climbing rope? Hows XTC?

XTC and other 16 strands are a bit different to double braids. the crossover (of the buried sheath and core) is the tricky bit to perfect. rigging lines are generally slightly baggier than prussic cords and climbing lines and therefore a bit easier. whoopie slings and the like made out of hollowbraids (tenex, yalex etc) are super easy too.

If you're just after rope to practce on head to a chandelers and pick up lengths and practice practice practice. get some 8mm/10mm cord and make prussics from it.
