Tackling Shakes

As most of you know I have been milling some Oak, the pieces we have cut so far have had a shake in the middle of the tree about 4 - 6" in length. My question is how do you deal with shakes? I have turned the tree (baulk) until we cut parallel with the shake, this way we are getting perhaps two boards that have the shake in the middle, these can then be cut in half. Is this the correct method.

There's no easy way of dealing with shakes but what you're doing sounds fine to me.
