Milling Oak

We have been milling some Oak with our Alaskan and 44" Granberg Bar, yesterday was very productive (nice weather), we had to clear some ground to get at the tree. We cut two sections just over 6' long as the tree predicted this, we planked this in 1 1\4" and 2" thickness (gate project). Yesterday we used a Granberg ripping chain and found this to be faster cutting than the Oregon ripping chain that we used today. Again today we had to cut a 6' length off the tree to mill and almost managed to complete this before the heavens opened, we cut all this into 1 1/2" thickness (all wood is almost 2' wide).

 

We are having some real nice pieces of Oak off this tree with quite a lot showing the medullary rays - from now on we should get our 8' lengths as recommended on here (Rob D and BigJ). Will get some pictures up of our efforts just need to upload them off my iPhone.
