difference in 3/8 and .404????

hi all sorry its took so long but here is a video of my saw to see if anyone can help me identify it!!!! shes been stored while ive been working away and she wouldnt start at first :sad: but a new spark plug, bit of fuel in the carb and shes back to her former self :laugh1:

 

 

hope the video shows enough and again any help appreciated :thumbup:

Pretty confident that's a mid-70s 041, as it doesn't have separate on/off and choke switches on the orange top cover as the 051/075 would, and has the old 'log end' Stihl logo, but had a riveted on ID plate, rather than the cast in one of earlier models. It's also orange rather than red on the top as an earlier one would be.

 

041 is only 61cc and Stihl supplied bars between 13" and 25" for it, so I wouldn't be inclined to fit your long bar to it. I would also definitely convert to 3/8" - I've never understood why the 041 (and to be honest the 051) were supplied as .404", unless it's a legacy thing due to commonly available chain sizes at the time they were introduced.

alec your a legend :biggrin::biggrin: on looking up the 041 theres no doubt in my mind your correct!!! ok so its not as big as i hoped but hey it was free so im not complaining :biggrin: and if i run a 25 in bar on it then that will be plenty big enough for me :001_smile: many thanks again mate, top forum this :thumbup1:

Thats fantastic, never seen so many white goods in one photo, not sure about the saw, but thats a zanussi hJ25447001.3 washing machine, i belive the 2009 model with the pre wash extra function, an electrolux E670 eco dryer- nice, toshiba microwave, cant tell from the photo but think its a 800w, could you post another photo showing left side?
