International work insurance

Hello all,

 

I'm hoping someone can help me out here so here goes! I am going to be moving to Canada as a climber on a working holiday visa. Now I need to get health/travel/accident insurance - not a problem usually, but as I'll be working out there and I'm struggling to find someone to insure me for accidents at work. (I'm not planning to have any mind!)

 

Anyone have any advice? Any tips would be appreciated as there's potential for me to be away for the next four years around the world.

Contact your embassy in advance and see if they can assist you with your needs. Has worked for me in the past.

Will your employer not cover you under there own insurance that is if they have any?

Thanks for the feedback guys. It's amazing how easy it is to forget about embassies! Good shout. I'd usually imagine that an employer would have me covered as I'd be working for them under their insurance. But I need to show immigration that I have my health covered to the point of being sent home which is fine for sports/holidays but wasn't entirely sure about how it worked with me as a worker. I'm not going to a set job otherwise it'd be easier. I might work for one company for a few months before moving to another part to get as much experience as possible. (obviously I'll agree a time period that suits them, not just do one when I feel like it!)

just wondering did you manage to get some sort of insurance through the embassy?

 

was thinking of going over there next year on a working holiday visa if nothing comes up on arbjobs ect. for summer 2013. Trying to work out some costs.

 

any advice much appreciated
