Hi all are you allowed to practice tree climbing in your local park with all your climbing gear or is this frowned upon by local councils ??

If your going to buy my own equiptment is it safe to buy second hand stuff or go for new? ie rope, harness, carabeeners ,slings, any thing of importants really.

DO NOT buy second hand ropes on any account.

i've seen lads pulling vans out, trees over and all sorts with their climbing ropes.

is your life really worth saving a few quid !!!!

a second hand harness is a possibility if you give it a good inspection, and it comes from someone you know.

caribiners i'd also personally steer clear of, again you don't know their history.

we live close to Clumber Park in Notts and i've taken my son climbing there a couple of times but we've never been caught. i suspect they'd flip if they caught us swinging about 50' up in the canopy

Like a lot of us on here i,ve been climbing trees since i was a nipper...My son was about 8...i have always reckoned that TREE CLIMBING is the worlds oldest profession!! on a documentary last week it said that if a child hasn,t climbed a tree by the time they,re 13 they probably never will...it will be a very sad day indeed when we are told that we are NOT Allowed to climb trees!.....As long as it is at the climbers own risk and safely away from others....tree climbing is a part of who we are...We came down from the trees..we,re just going back up again.....Happy Climbing!
