Sounds to me like it's not or at least was not your rope to begin with. If it was me there is no way I would use a rope that hasn't been used by me and only me. Not worth the risk IMO. You just dont know its history. Use it as a pulling rope and go buy yourself something you can trust 100%

Thanks or all the help guys. Ill try to get a loler inspector to take a look. If not I think ill leave it in the garage and not climb on it. Theres no inconsistency in the width of the rope but I just want to be sure. Ive got a Yale XTC Blaze but its pretty thin which obviously makes it hard to grip, and also seems to cause my prussik to loosen and slip down does this seem like thats the cause?

If you don't know the history/age then a loler inspector is likely to fail it on principle.

Yes blaze is hard on the hands. If your Prussia is slipping then it likely the diameter of the Prussia rope is too high in comparison to the blaze or that it's not flexible enough to wrap tightly round the blaze.

Looking at the two together I think it might be that. The other rope is thicker so it works well with that prussik, but when used a thinner rope it started to not work as well

Without meaning to hijack the thread, what are the pros and cons of using an 11mm rope over a 13mm, are they faster?

I dont have much experience but It does seem to run faster and its lighter and smaller when coiled up. I dont like it though...it seems like whenever I pull on the prussik to start decending it wont stop until I grab the rope and re-do the knot. Being a trainee it isnt great for my confidence when I carry on coming down despite letting go lol :confused1:
