Transit Fire

Guys just wanted to share with you something that happened to me yesterday. Did i bit of conny bashing on Saturday but couldn't get it all in the 02 Transit crew cab tipper, so chipped the small stuff and went back on Monday morning to take the big stuff. All going well and finished by 11 in the morn, stopped at a shop on way home to buy a new ball hitch as mine is getting bit worn. Got back in and tried to start the tipper, turned but sounded very slow, like a dead battery and then it started, but at the same time a big blue cloud of smoke poured out from under the bonnet. Jumped out and popped the bonnet to find the cabling by the jump start point on fire. Lucky always have a fire extinguisher in the truck so put it out no problem. Two wires had shorted out. One is the main power cable and there is a smaller one underneath that's tapped to it that comes out the bottom of the fuse box.

Just went onto the Transit Fourm and it turns out that its the glow plug fuse wire, happens all the time when one of your glow plugs backs up,

So guys please check your wiring, I think I was very lucky, have heard that it can happen when the vans going along.

Hope this helps someone
