my first owl

so here it is, my first ever owl. got lucky with some bits, like how the grain just happened to be perfect for an eye :) i knew laburnum would be a good choice :wink: :wink: anyway pretty happy with it for a first go, but would welcome some feed back...cheers, Lee.

Pretty good first attempt Lee. Lovely piece of wood and as you say good placement for the eye.

I would suggest next time you keep things simple, pare it back to the basic form.

The face is like a heart shape within a circle. Each half of the 'heart' is scooped out gently leaving a crisp vertical edge in the centre.

If you carve a sleeping owl then you do away with the problems of carving the eyes.

yeah i know what you mean si, i'll prob try and do less detail next time and let the grain do the talking :) and your right about the beak it kinda looks like its wearing a spartan helmet as it is.
