Question

hi all

:001_smile:

great forum you have here

I've had two quotes to prune my sycamore. both suggested pollarding down to just above the height of next doors conifers. id be happy with this as would take a while to grow so big again, more sunlight, but still maintains privacy from the back.

how about the tree, can it cope losing so much height?

The tree looks relatively vital & healthy from the regrowth after the last pruning work, so will more than likely re-sprout from any new reduction work.

However, worth considering that there will be decayed wood at those previous lower pruning wounds that will make any existing growth points potentially weakly attached.

If it were my tree I'd be inclined to reduce it back to last pruning points to keep the sail area of the canopy, managed.

Which will end up with the situation returning to this same point in a few short years.
