Hey guys,

I'm really intrested in jazz guitar, and also acoustic guitar in general.

Was just wondering if anyone else on the forum likes to play jazz.

Who are your main inspirations?

What are your favourite pieces to play?

Cheers!!

Try listening to a guy called Martin Taylor , he used to live locally to me. He plays gypsy jazz in the Django Rheinhardt style . He is of traveller descent ( Rheihardt was a Belgian gypsy and has an amazing story btw for those interested) and has played with the great Stefan Grapelli . :001_smile:

One of my influences. Very hard to imitate his thumb rolls on the bass.

Hi Trees

Yes, guess I am as much a guitar collector as I am a musican. Currently enjoying playing Newton Faulker, Neil Young, and still like to play a few old Dyan songs (All Along Watch Tower). My favorite instruments are an inexpensive Taylor Big Baby, a tweaked up mexican Telecaster, and a Yamaha electro acoustic nylon string. The singing is, lets say improving.

Graham, I must say Blind Blake is amazing! I've heard him before, but never even had the motivation to try to play his stuff because its so immense, as I'm used to playing in a jazz style. Might give it a go!

Andrew, Newton Faulkner is amazing! I love his sons go much, although when it comes to playing his stuff, I find that it is quite hard to make it sound correct and in time.

My next investment has got to be a good old telecaster guitar! The sound they produce for jazz is amazing!

Cheers!

I used to try really hard to recreate the sound of a favoured musician. It doesn't happen. Everyone has their own sound and that's what makes everyone unique.
