looking for a stump grinder

Hi, after a stump grinder for back garden works. wanted something that could do a 17" + stump with relative ease, any suggestions, thanks

for bck garden work you really need a pedestrian stump grinder. My Husqy SG13A will cope with a 17 inch stump with relative ease. I've tackled stumps 2 to 3 ft across - it just takes longer. Any of the 13 HP machines should be fine.

Depends on how important stump grinding is to your business.

 

If it is the core of your business then I would suggest the Carlton SP4012 (Petrol or Deisel). This would ensure maximum productivity with minimal physical effort.

 

However, if you are only looking to do the odd stump I would suggest something smaller. Something 13hp, like the Carlton 900H, would be fine.

Timb, are you thinking of buying or hiring? We always hire from Travis Perkins down here, and don't pay much (less than half of the rate they give in the book). Good thing about hiring is that they have the expense of maintenance. We pay something like £70 for a day, whereas to buy a good one costs a hell of a lot and it would take years of occasional use to get that back. If using every single day then buying would be an option.

Is anyone after a second hand Carlton 2300-4?

we're not sure on the hours or age but it works very well.
