Equipment Question

Hi, I am looking for something to carve on, but I don't know what it's called so can't source it.

 

On my Lantra course the guy had a metal, solid, small, square table with a massive vice clamp on it, so it could grab the bottom of an upright log and you could get to work on it. The jaws opened to about 18".

 

Any ideas what it might be called, or do you guys have anything similar that you find useful?

Not the same as you are describing, but I have always found this to be a very handy bit of kit.

Small Motorbike stand like this one its height adjustable so you wont do your back in, has a hole in the middle so you can either screw up into the wood, or make a plinth that sits snugly onto the top and stick some nails in facing up - if you go for the latter then remember you put nails in it when you fancy taking a break and sitting down! trust me not pleasant.

Oh Eddie, that's awful news. Did it go in the post, or from your property? Pop a stolen post up, I'm sure there's an area for stolen stuff, and what with them being golddust it may be found on on ebay, or gum tree. Do they have serial numbers?

EddieJ. how much do the super jaws cost and who sells them as they look like they would have so many uses for me.

Super jaws used to be elu, then dewalt now triton. They are good bits of kit I have an elu one buried in the garage.

 

I think they still come up on ebay

 

Oh and they have the "log jaw" to buy as an accessorie

As above, they are brilliant bits of kit. The clamp can also be turned around to hold wide items.

 

As Dean has also said, you can get log clamps and other accessories.

 

I paid about £90.00 for mine, but be careful as the new version is now sold without the horizontal bottom leg supports. If you buy one, go for an ELU or an older style Triton. There was two ELU versions recently being sold on Ebay by the same seller, and I think that they made £50.00 for the pair. Take your time, and one will turn up at the right price and location.
