Cooking on your woodburner advice please

hello i,ve cooked on my woodburner boiled the kettle etc but find when i try to do a stew etc i have trouble slightly burn sticking food to bottom of pot would a trivet thingy work as i,am new to this a think i need a air gap so to speak instead of pot on flat cast iron on top of stove etc the meat etc falls lovely slow cooking etc but burns bottom of pot thus a pain to clean make a nice brew though all for nowt no lecky no gas no standing charge no vat etc etc etc lol
