Tree failure on site last night

Thanks guys for the ident - I,m just starting to get my head around sorting out the different fungi around us and that was one of my reasons for posting in the hope that you two would "hop on" and give me a heads up::Many thanks.

 

There certaining is a fair amount of internal rot- probably 30%, but the stem still seemed to be functioning properly. what alarms me is that the rot plate and main roots seemed sound and solid. ? As you mention shallow root and slenderness ratio is looking plausible. Certainly scared the b'jeesus out of the hotel staff.

 

I tell you what you already know, but trees fail, not always because of issues this one was long overdue a reduction one as part of a programed retrenching to a more suitable form for its location.

 

as opposed to the connstant lift and thin operations to gain light under the canopy had achieved.

 

forcing it further still to extend upward, and all the while increasing slenderness and thats a double edged sord because as the carbs are produced higher, the placement of resources gets harder where it is needed most, at the root flare.

 

it is in the urban world that WE fail trees, by not understanding them and their needs and life proscesses. the decay was not excessive the slenderness was, and that was a managment error not the T/R ratio which was still IMO from these images in good order, at least nowt more so than would require a reduction, already obvious due to slenderness:001_smile:

 

I always get concerned when a failure like this makes people saw happy and jumpy, this one failed the others didnt, you get my drift:thumbup1:

Mr H, Thanks for you response. I can assure you, your posts rarely tell me anything I already know and I,m always much appreciative of your help. I think you,ve hit the nail on the head - I,m starting to realise the Symptom cause and resultant effect here.
