Firstly - Happy new year to you all - I hope the log sales are booming!

One of my members is considering building a large drying shed in his yard, but is concerned that the whole building will be eligible for business rates. He does intend to sell small quantities of firewood to passersby, but by and large his main business will be delivering the logs.

Could he get round this by segregating off a small “office area”?

Your ideas and experiences will be gratefully received :)

Thanks chaps.

I think it will be difficult to keep under the radar as he is looking to fund this with the help of a WEBS2 grant and asking the council has proved inconclusive so far....

That looks like a Wales only scheme, would no doubt need planning permission so will attract the attention of the rates office for sure.

If that scheme is also available in other parts of the UK please advise.
