Wear them all the time. Leather in the dry, a pair of Arbotec gell in the summer wet. Winter rain and snow its time for rubberised gloves or military cold weather mitts.

No climbing yet though.

I've worn leather gloves all through my other career, so used to doing everything in them, from typing to photography. :driver:

Almost everyone wears gloves. They are mandatory in just about every arb/landscape company so I would get used to wearing them. If they are uncomfortable find a pair that are comfortable. If you get caught not wearing gloves by a big utilities company it has severe consequencies not only for you but the company aswell.

Prolonged use of leather gloves over years in wet weather can lead to arthritis of the knuckle joints,........ can't stand wearing gloves myself,

I have to laugh at some lorry drivers etc, first thing they do when getting out of the cab is put on gloves, to do the most lightest of duties...... you wouldn't see Fred Dibnah doing that:001_tt2:

I've worked for the two biggest utility companies in Scotland/ uk and gloves were mandatory in both. If he is going self employed fair enough he can do what the hell he likes but if he is not then he better start getting used to wearing them. Experienced arborists advising new starts not to wear gloves is irresponsible imo.
