Mystery fungi

I found these large fungi seemingly growing from the base of an ash, with yew underneath as well. I think they may be coming from a buttress root just under the ground.

The card in the pic is average business card size for scale. They were well past their best, but appeared to have (or have had) pores. They had a slight mushroomy smell, and a thick sturdy stem which was fairly central. The cap was slightly funnel shaped, and not perfectly circular.

So, any ideas?b26d70bc-6a1c-a939.jpgb26d70bc-6a2c-3384.jpg

I wondered that, but thought the stipe was too central, and didn't recall hearing of them on the ground/roots. Maybe my gut was right after all....

sometimes if the fruit body comes up with room to go full circumference it does have a more centralised stipe and or two halves as with yours:thumbup1:
