Picus vs Rinntech

I heard rinntech mentioned as being better than picus a couple of years ago, but misheard it as ring tech and funny enough couldn't find any info! Just stumbled upon it now however, and wondered if anyone here had experience good or bad?

Is that the ArborTom software? If so a group of Arborists is using that to build a 3d image of the TV.oak in Stockholm to collect as much info as possible of a Veteran tree that is under threat of beeing felled. Very visual readings and easy to get a very good and refined picture of the stability and weight distribution of the tree.

Shouldn't they first identify the macrofungi and the types of wood rot they cause correctly, before they start using "high tech" 3d equipment to assess the condition and stability of the tree ?

Different people doing different things... Time is short and Arborists are gathering snippets of info, pro bono, in between jobs. The puzzle will be laid and a lot of scientific data can be evaluated and put to some good use. Everyone is asking for favors in the name of Arboriculture.

Part of the assessment is to verify wether the tree is dangerous or not NOW, next step will be the discussion on future prognosis.

A fully investigated veteran tree, with aid of Arbotoms, prior to felling will be a valuable resource in future similar decisions especially as there are several Picus readings from several years to compare with. The collective information will be a valuable resource in Sweden and hopefully for others too.
