Tommer9 as a runner your shinsplints are mainly due to the calf muscles developing faster than the muscles in the front of the leg. Most people out grow this and over time it does not come back. Any number of things could have caused your pain in your shins including, not warming up and stretching well enough before your little trot, shoe selection or wearing shoes worn out, and you may also have one leg longer than the other!, which is more common than one might expect. When the latter is a possibility this can really throw out your entire upper torso which may account for your back issue as well. A Podiatrist could help better diagnose your issues and a running Podiatrist would be your best choice.

I think herein lies the issue....on top of not having run for ages!!!!

(my back issues stem from 2 disintegrated and missing discs, spondylolysthesis, and what the consultant said was mild spinobifida, all compounded by serious rugby injury age 14:001_rolleyes:)
