MS201 Review

Hows it,

So this is a basic review for the Sthil MS201. i run it with a 14inch bar.

i been using this Climbing saw for a month now. i find it slightly heavier than, the MS200 and it needs a e-lite bar on it to give it a better balance point. The saws feels alot more torquey than the MS200 but as to the power difference i cant really notice too much difference.

we did a cutting race on same size log and the MS201 was slightly faster than the MS200 and both had reasonably new chains on. as we know this could be due to the user but anyways it very similar. the MS201 is pretty quite and but you dont have the option to remove the spark arrester. as the exhaust unit is fully inclosed.

it is very efficient on fuel, actually very surprising that fact. can do loads of work with out having to send down and refuel. they is noticeably less vibration in the saw. the Air filter has never needed cleaning which is crazy! i think i have tapped it out twice. and very little to nothing has come out of it. But once i was climbing around i did have the Air filter unit protector (orange Part) drop off whilst climbing around.

this could be due to my bad climbing skills or just unlucky, but never happened to all the other MS200 over the years i been using them. i really like the Nut/bolt feature on the bar side part. as it is built in, so this stops you from losing it in the long grass etc.

To stop yabbing on, i think it is a really great saw and if you are in the game for buying a new saw i would defo recommend the upgrade to the newer version. it does cost a little more, but over the time i reckon it pays for it in better fuel economy. But there all in all it not like a totally new saw and new wow facter.

Hope that helps in anyway it can.

Cheers MOG

I no a guy who has had nothing but trouble with his keeps getting out of tune so he has had to send it back twice, air filter comes off very often which has coursed him to get a lump of wood stuck in the carb. I would never buy this saw until they fix the air box issue.
