Can anyone help me find info on the decay Strategy of Inonotus hispidus in relation to Quercus cerris.

The reason for asking is, i came across a monster bracket fruiting at about 20’ on a reasonably healthy looking mature 65’ Q, cerris which leans about 10 degree towards a road. A previous vta suggested that the tree has some audible signs of hollowing to the lower trunk, but never seen any fb’s on it. I know that I. hispidus causes a Simultaneous white rot however the difference in the degradation of wood seems to differ between species, and can’t seem to find anything specific to Q, cerris.

Thanks in advance for any info, and will post some pics next week.

I. hispidus also has the capacity for soft rot, and alternates strategy in order to circumnavigate the reaction zones during the dormant period when reaction zones are inactive.

Just as the also biotrophic parasitic Meripilus giganteus : soft rot = sap wood (parasitic), white rot = dead wood (saprotrophic).
