Did you not cover all this on the course you did at college???

 

i only did a year at college BTEC NA. They did not have it on our syallbuse.

 

Im booking in too do a days training on it , then im goning to pratice it , then go for my assment.

 

 

I think that is the same course i am doing now, the national award?

 

We are being taught practical upto cs30, cs31, cs38, cs39, cs40 and cs41..... Although it is looking asif we have to pay the assessment fee, about £100 each.

At college we will be trained for most of the nptc tickets, but we have to organise and pay for the assessment fees.

cerne....so you did tree climbing at college but didnt learn any aerial rescue techniques?? aerial rescue is a pre-requisite for climbing assessments, i would have naturally assumed this would be the case for training also! can anyone from any other colleges confirm that for me please?

 

under the BTEC agenda , we learnt basic climbing , small tree felling , cross cutting and chainsaw maitence. we were only due to take cs30-31 in the first year, they did not have time to do ariel rescue. Think some of the instructors just touched on with 1/2 lads , but only breifly. There doing it this year. you would have thought a year of practical that it would have been taught , but it wasnt:bored:.

Well im doing my best to learn what i missed, waiting to hear from trees unlimited / arborcop for the one day rescue training.

The lads doing the diploma course go upto further tickets too, we've had 4 weeks climbing, just on wednesdays apart from the people struggling we were doing aerial rescue last week, but we've got small groups and good tutors!!!!

I did a years National Certificate in horticulture (arboriculture) and in that was included CS30, 31, 38 and 39. It was both theory and practical. You're right Steve, 30 and 38 are pre-requisite for 39.

From what I hear, this year they've added a chipper ticket on top. Personally I think they should also have a first aid course included.

i feel really cheated after reading all of the above..what a waste of a year!!

 

i wish i had known more about it before i chose what college. The second years at otley are doing there areil rescue this year and not much else from what they have said. they seem to be doing work for the FC as training days. Was it like that for you Gayn?

Hey,

We did 1 and a half days a week doing theory: science, machinery, idents, etc...all pretty basic and then 1 whole day doing pratical. We went out to a National Trust place on Exmoor to fell trees and were lucky enough to have great trees on campus to climb. Sounds like you've had a rough deal...
