357xp problem

thankyou for your replies guys.

I have given it in to my local husqy repair man today so hopefully its nothing too major to fix. It sounds like an air like around the rubber boot thing area and maybe need a new clutch if its cutting out the engine every time.

Maybe leaving old fuel in there for many months has corroded the rubber boot thing. Is that right?

Shouldn't think so as the fuel won't be present in that part of the engine. Stale fuel can rot out fuel lines - had some strimmers like that and it has a real bad smell when they go and you can actually roll the tube rubber in to balls of rubber it goes so mushy - not good.

Usually people who leave fuel in their saws seize the engine on the first outing of the season when cutting a decent bit of timber - in future, drain it out and use it in the mower.

The stalling is probably not the clutch but the weak mix caused by the air leak making the saw over-rev at idle so the clutch engages on the sprocket but isn't rich enough to pull the saw over once the chainbrake is engaged - you may have a bit of crud around th einside of the sprocket or bearing but that is what I reckon.

The carb on 357s are held loosly in place with two buffers either side and the boot - not exactly sure why they go but would say it is due to the carb not being quite supported enough - many Huskys share the design with the 340,345,346,350,357 being some of them.

Hopefully you have caught it in time - sounds like you have:thumbup:

Thanks for taking time to give me an amazingly detailed reply. If you was my local guy id definately take my saw to you!

How do you think this air leak happened?

Just a weakness in the saw and if the idle starts playing up it is the first place to check - I have had a number of huskys in with this fault and it is often hard to find - personally I always pressure check the saw after replacing these parts.

Re - not being local - many members send their saws to me - Parcel2go only charge £6.00!

Good luck with it - the dealer should know all this and correct it - if they are good with saws...............:001_rolleyes:
