set metering lever level with top of carb body ??

Sounds about right - One last tip for the day - take the carb off, remove the diaphragm and cover, put a tube on the petrol pipe connector and blow down it, there should be a seal and no air should escape - the same if you suck on it:001_rolleyes:

Try actuating the lever and then letting it shut off and checking the seal.

It may be worth removing the needle and cleaning the apperture and needle with carb solvent.

It must be this mechanism:confused1:

have a look at the fly wheel take it of and make sure the key way is OK ind that its not snapped or anything

Definitely worth checking. If the key has sheared the timing will be out, you will still get a spark just not at the right time in relation to TDC.

Possibly - had one like that that backfired like a shotgun and scared the poop out of me until I found the problem - it is the flooding that bothers me, with a busted key, it will flood but only if you continue to crank the engine on full choke.

You can check by taking the plug out and when it hits top dead centre, the magnet should be in line with the coil -this will tell you if the flywheel has spun well out of position but maybe best to remove the flywheel nut and visually check!

Worth a look!
