If your piston is measured at 46mm then yes, it will fit - a simple way of checking the diameter of the cylinder is to remove the exhaust, insert one of those WD40 red nozzle tubes up to the back side of the cylinder and turn the engine over so it is cut off and then lower the piston and extract the piece and measure it...simple:thumbup:

The best non OEM pistons are generally Meteor from Italy, then Episan from Turkey and then Golf and many other non named Chinese stuff!

If the saw is decent then I would fit a Meteor if you can get hold of one - Leon the Greek and Max fro Latvia do them on ebay. Other than that I have had parts from Winston at Arb Ireland and he is fast on delivery and quality seems good.

If the engine has been seized - make sure the bore has been cleaned of aluminium transfer otherwise the rings will last five minutes:thumbdown: plus make sure you know why the saw failed in the first place - the rubber inlet boot is this saws weakness.

i've managed to get hold of a clean engine case/bore from another 357XP that got stripped down for spare parts, and yes once i started stripping my own saw down it was the rubber boot that was loose. i've used a vernier(sp) to measure the diameter and it is 46mm....I was just asking because the price difference is staggering !!

Thank you for the reply !!

(i found Max's Meteor piston kit on ebay)

Yes OEM pistons are the best and are usually Mahle but are very expensive. One last thing to check is the letter stamped on the top of your cylinder - It is probably a "B" and the piston Max will have is the "A" which is marginally smaller then the "B" piston but will work ok - if you have an "A" cylinder it will be a perfect fit - we are talking around 0.01mm - bugger all really and your saw will make around 150PSI without any running in!

  • 2 weeks later...
piston kit came the other day....all fitted along with new-ish carb and new inlet boot....got saw running at factory settings and then tuned up to run proper :)

Glad it all turned out OK and that you fitted the new boot - they always play up - run it a tad rich for a few tank-fulls before tuning it for near max revs!
