found this amongst some bracken the other day,

may be a member of the orchid family

 

Looks like a broomrape (Orobanche species) to me. If so, what surrounding plant species could it be a parasite of ?

Yes that's a Pyramidal Orchard. quite often found on chalk Grassland :thumbup1:

Looks really pale- could it be Orobanche picridis? Brilliant spot if it is.

If so, it would need Picris hieracioides or Hypochaeris radicata to parasitize on.

Yep, I didn't see any host plants for UK spp. in the shot. That doesn't mean they're not nearby. I've seen an image of Orobanche hederae with no ivy to be seen.

 

Maybe O. minor then?
