..carve deep bowls,spoons,ladles etc and get such a smooth even finish? ive done a few spoons before but nothing deep jus carve in and use my thumb with a bit sandy paper to smooth but some of the deeper stuff on here looks a pain in the arse to sand is it just a case of get on with it or is there a technique?

power tools are a must.. dremel type kits, flap wheels on a drill, 'air file' type sanders... depends alot on personal preferance... lots of choice out there!!!!

You don't need any power tool, and shouldn't need to sand. I take it you are using a proper spoon knife? If this is properly sharp, it will burnish the inside curve of the spoon, leaving a smooth finish.

Agreed. Sharp hand tools are all you need.

This is some of my friends work,

the insides are as smooth as the outsides.

you can see how deep he turns by the depth of the walking stick stands.

He has designed a special tool to do this.

You can't see the insides from these pics but you can see the size of the work he does.
