Death Cap or not?

Found this and I thought it was a death cap but using the book I got of Lee with another book I think it maybe a false death cap? Anyone confirm or know what it is? I am doing a spore print and will post the results.

From what I've read, they can be told apart by the volva - destroying angel and death caps are 'sack like'. False death cap has a trough like ridge at the top of the volva, around the stem.

 

I'd say it's a white false death cap, comparing it to the pictures and info in Philips Mushrooms. That's not to say I'd take the Pepsi challenge with it.

Here is a photo of a death cap I found growing under a hornbeam. Is yours a Destroying angel ?

I little more research, I think its a false death cap (edible but would you!?). its produced white spores with a slight yellow ring on the edge where the veil meets.

 

Its not a destroying angel, its not pale enough.

It amazes me that something so harmless looking could either be edible or completely deadly. It dosen't sound a very nice way to go either.

 

Maybe best to to test it on the cat before you put it on your pizza...

how did you do the spore print ?

Remove the cap, place a piece of plain paper on top of an appropriate size glass and place the cap on the paper. leave overnight.

 

There will be a nice print where the cap was. Very usefull aid!

we have Psilocybe semilanceata [Liberty cap] similar mushroon, does the same trick
